As we approach the middle of the 2023-24 academic year, the Wellington Academy Programme is delighted to present a diverse variety of engaging and enriching activities for your children.  Below is a comprehensive overview of the programmes available, along with important registration details.

The programmes offered this semester are mainly divided into three categories: programmes for all age groups, nursery pupils, and primary and secondary school pupils.

Musical Centre Stage

In musical centre stage, pupils will participate in recordings and performances at the end of the semester. 

Due to the extensive length, difficulty, and complexity of the original scripts, the teacher has condensed and adapted them, as well as added secondary creative elements, to ensure that they are suitable for young actors to perform. The teacher will assign roles, lines, and musical pieces based on each pupil’s individual abilities and learning progress. 

This semester we will perform: 

Nursery——“The Lion King” adaptation 

The inspiration for this production comes from the award-winning animated film of the same name, which has become one of the most beloved productions in the history of theatre. With multiple language adaptations, this show has been performed numerous times at prestigious venues such as Broadway and the West End of London, leaving audiences captivated and enthralled. Its enduring popularity is a testament to its artistic merit, and its impact on the world of theatre is unparalleled. 

Primary & Secondary Schools

 ——“Cats” adaptation

Andrew Lloyd Webber adapted T.S. Eliot's children's poems into the musical sensation, "Cats." Webber paid close attention to the characteristics of children, hence the show became beloved among young fans. 

Golf

Golf is an outdoor ball sport. The golf course is taught by a professional team of certified teachers. In the course, pupils will learn the basic skills and rules of golf, as well as the culture and etiquette of golf. In addition to group classes, the golf course also offers unique private lessons. 

Spanish

The course content is specially designed for young children. A multi-staged teaching system centring on young children has been developed according to the psychological characteristics of children of different ages and their acceptance of language learning. The curriculum includes introductory classes with children’s songs and picture books, basic classes based on phonics and extended reading, and advanced classes based on original textbooks. The curriculum design is based on the Spanish language, with subject knowledge as the background, to stimulate children’s potential language talents and help children build international cultural awareness.  

Spanish courses will be divided into different classes to meet the needs of pupils. Many pupils have progressed from primary courses to advanced courses after several semesters of study and have gradually become proficient in the language. 

Original textbook "Lola y Leo" (three books) 

*"Lola y Leo" is a series of activity-based foreign language textbooks. Pupils follow the teacher to sing, draw, discuss, listen, speak, and role-play, learning Spanish through a series of activities that stimulate their interest.

Karate 

In the karate course, children will learn different fighting stances to consolidate their core strength. With the foundation of stable stances, pupils will further learn attacking techniques, kicking techniques, and some simple combinations of movements. Learning various types of footwork switching and movement, target aiming, free hand grouping, etc., pupils can master basic self-defence skills and strengthen their bodies. Through continuous study, pupils have better mastered karate skills and successfully passed the belt promotion assessment in the previous semester. 

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu 

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is mainly based on ground fighting technique training. The warm-up training will be integrated with fun and educational tumbling and crawling training, which can improve children's body agility and flexibility. At the end of the warm-up, the teacher will explain the ground self-defence and submission techniques. Through practical games, pupils will build a solid athletic foundation and body strength, boosting self-confidence. The course is widely offered in nursery, primary and secondary schools providing pupils with long-term, systematic, and stable Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training. 

Speech and Eloquence

"Speech and Eloquence" is a language specialised course. The basic objective of this course is to strengthen language foundation and correct pronunciation. In addition to regular training such as basic oral exercises and stability training of breath control, we will also incorporate other language specialised training such as recitation, simulated hosting, column interviewing, fun dubbing, and documentary learning. 

Creative Painting 

Creative painting course encourage children to express themselves through activities such as colouring, cutting, and collaging. Creative painting helps enhance children's imagination and creativity, allowing them to create freely based on their preferred themes or scenes. Through various artistic activities, it can effectively stimulate the creativity and imagination of nursery children, cultivate their artistic literacy and aesthetic ability, and improve their overall quality eventually. 

Childrens Physical Fitness

Comprehensive and balanced sports training is crucial to children in the Early Years period. Scientific sports training can increase children's interest and enthusiasm in sports, thus benefiting them to develop life-long habits. In this programme, pupils will try BOSU ball training, battling ropes training, interval aerobic training, balance and coordination training, strength development stretching and joint flexibility training. 

LEGO

Learning with LEGO in the Early Years period can lay a solid foundation for children’s future logical thinking. LEGO emphasises creative play experience, which helps to cultivate children’s cooperation and communication skills. In addition, the process of building with LEGO also helps pupils develop good manual dexterity and spatial imagination skills. With the guidance of the teacher, learning to read LEGO blueprints can help pupils learn basic math expressions (such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) as well as become familiar with various geometric shapes. Installing LEGO models can help pupils establish a concept of order; when sorting LEGO parts, pupils can classify them by colour and shape, further cultivating their logical thinking skills. 

Clay sculpture 

Making clay sculptures by hand can help pupils develop their capability of action, thinking, creating, and hand-eye coordination, promoting their brain development. Pupils can make their products with fingers, imagination, and creative minds. This course will use Eco-friendly ultralight clay, which is a prevailing material that can be used in integrated creation. When children focus on the making process, their ability to create and appreciate art will be improved under an artistic, fun and creative atmosphere.        

In addition to the programmes mentioned above, various school activities such as basketball, soccer, karate, golf, and the growth support station are offered for children at the nursery stage to provide them with more diverse and colourful school activities. 

Chess

Chess is an ideal game that combines strategy and tactics, combining art, science, knowledge and inspiration. We will learn all about each chess piece and each one’s special properties and move on to learning about different openings within the game. Learning chess improves memory, concentration and logical thinking. 

Chinese Traditional Painting 

Chinese traditional painting generally refers to the style of painting on rice paper or silk products with brushes, water, ink, and pigments. According to art divisions, Chinese traditional painting can be divided into three major categories: figures, landscapes, and flowers and birds. Learning Chinese traditional painting can cultivate one’s sentiments and broaden one's mind, making pupils experience the unique charm of traditional Chinese poetry, calligraphy, painting, and stamping. Our Chinese traditional painting teachers all have decades of painting experience and are well-known in the field. At the same time, they also have rich teaching experience. They will provide pupils with step-by-step instruction to stimulate their artistic talent while fostering their interest in painting and integrating systematic skill instruction, which can help them better prepare for attending CCPT. 

Beginner Level: Practicing the painting of flowers and birds, pupils will consolidate the mastery of brushwork, ink, and the properties of Chinese paints. Through training, pupils will learn about the characteristics of plants and animals and practice the ability to shape and compose them. Pupils will study the theoretical knowledge of Chinese traditional painting layout and inscriptions and seals. 

Intermediate Level: Pupils will systematically learn traditional painting techniques through copying classic masterpieces of landscapes and flowers and birds. Also, pupils will improve their skills in composition and layout, modelling and colour analysis in the painting exercise. Moreover, pupils will try to create simple sketches under the guidance of the teacher after appreciating the masterpieces of the past dynasties and gaining a preliminary understanding of the history of Chinese traditional painting.  

Ballet

Ballet is one of the most famous classical dances in the world. Ballet dancing helps pupils improve their physical coordination and musicianship, shape graceful figures, and cultivate elegant temperament.  

The programme will focus on children’s basic skills and the practice of ground movements. For pupils with a ballet foundation, the teacher will adjust the teaching content and appropriately add dance movements based on the pupil’s learning progress. Pupils will learn a series of dancing movements, trying to perform a whole and beautiful dance programme at the end of this semester, which can help them better experience the performance art of ballet.  

The course is equipped with excellent teaching staff to provide pupils with systematic ballet skills instruction. During the class, teachers will guide pupils in scientific and systematic ballet practice and dance rehearsal. After attending ballet classes at school, pupils' abilities are fully sufficient to participate in national ballet grading exams. 

Archery

Archery is a technical sport. Pupils can improve their archery skills through continuous archery learning under the guidance of teachers. Our school's archery programme has achieved remarkable results, and pupils have enthusiastically signed up for the City Archery League. Through short-term learning, they have made it into the top eight in the City Archery League, demonstrating their outstanding talent and ability in the field of archery. 

IELTS and TOEFL

The IELTS and TOEFL course offered by our school is a professional English language course designed to help pupils excel in the test. The course consists of four parts: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, providing pupils with comprehensive guidance and training for the test. Our teachers have rich teaching experience and excellent teaching abilities. Through the course, pupils will be able to comprehensively improve their English proficiency, and master test skills and strategies, so that they can finally achieve excellent results. 

Synchronised Swimming  

Synchronised Swimming, known as Water Ballet or Aquatic Dancing, represents a captivating form of water sports, officially recognised as an Olympic event. This elegant discipline encompasses Solo, Duet, Team and Combination projects providing a holistic experience for participants. 

The rich history of synchronised swimming dates back to 1920, evolving into a globally recognised sport featured not only in the Olympics but also in national competitions. Remarkably, it has become a popular extracurricular activity in numerous British and American universities. 

At the heart of synchronised swimming lies an integration of various sports elements, blending swimming, dancing, music and gymnastics. Tailored for school children aged 6-18 years old, this discipline offers a unique opportunity for holistic development, shaping their temperament, physical development, overall health and self-confidence. 

Participation in this course will improve pupils' aerobic endurance, strength, speed, and technical movement in preparation for race teams and swimming competitions. 

Tennis

The tennis course offers classes for different age groups, so both beginners and advanced learners can choose the appropriate level of class. We also offer private lessons, allowing each pupil to receive personalised teaching and guidance. 

In addition to the programmes mentioned above, various school activities such as badminton, football and themed learning (English) are offered for primary and secondary school pupils. We hope that through these activities, pupils can not only exercise their body and mind, but also further improve their learning and communication abilities.
