In doing so, Wellington College became the first school in the UK to introduce wellbeing lessons for pupils and became a pioneer of positive education. As a member of the Wellington College family of schools, Hiba Academy Hangzhou has upheld this tradition and established a comprehensive wellbeing program where we adopt an approach that values young people’s happiness to the same extent as their academic success.
We follow the PEEC course (Positive Education Enhanced Curriculum) in our wellbeing lessons. It is an explicit curriculum designed for schools that stems from the research of Martin Seligman on the PERMA model of flourishing.

Wellington College has a deep tradition of boarding; it is an extension of our educational model and central to becoming a Wellingtonian. In China, there is also a long tradition of boarding provision, which extends back to the time of Confucius. At Hiba Academy Hangzhou we seek to bring together the very best boarding practices to create an environment in which our pupils thrive. Our pupils will enjoy a rich and varied programme in a safe and supportive environment that serves as a family away from home.
Boarding is led by our expatriate and local Boarding Mistresses, who hold senior positions within the College. Pupils will have access to personal and social development activities supported by the boarding mentors and housemasters, along with opportunities to enhance their studies after school, and exploration of sports and the arts. A rich and structured programme will inspire, support, and challenge pupils. They will be encouraged to develop socially, academically, spiritually and morally as they foster a culture of independence.
