Our NetEase Young Reporter Station Launched

14 Mar 2023

The NetEase Zhejiang Young Reporter Station was officially launched in Wellington College Hangzhou on the beautiful morning of Wednesday, 9 March, when James He, Director of Admissions and Marketing, was presented with the plaque from Lv Shuai, editor-in-chief of the Zhejiang Education sector of NetEase News.

In an increasingly interconnected world in this big-data era, one can become easily inundated with tremendous volumes of information. Being on the receiving end of various information, Huili pupils often ponder the reliability of news. They have been raising questions in their daily learning of news writing, such as the similarities and differences between news and narrative writing, how to acquire high-quality news, etc. With the joint establishment of the Young Reporter Station with NetEase Zhejiang Education, Wellington College Hangzhou aims to invite experts in journalism to teach our pupils to master news writing skills and improve their logic and independent thinking from a more professional level.

In the lesson debut after the launch of the Station, the NetEase News Zhejiang Education invited an experienced journalist to deliver a dynamic and engaging workshop for junior and senior high pupils at Wellington College Hangzhou.

The journalist shared his career experience and life over the years under the topic of “to be a lookout standing on the mast”. He deconstructed pupils’ worries into details of their life and learning and shared the basics and writing skills of news reporting in clear and exciting words. His presentation was met with massive applause from the audience.

In the Q&A sessions, the journalist answered some pointed and thought-provoking questions proposed by pupils based on the presentation and their own understanding.

Wellington College Hangzhou and NetEase News Zhejiang Education jointly expressed the will to deepen their all-round cooperation in multiple areas using the Young Reporter Station as a window, with an aim to cultivate outstanding young reporters and contribute to the in-depth learning and the comprehensive improvement of our pupils.
