Sam Phillips

Sam has three years of experience teaching the English National Curriculum after being awarded his PGCE from the University of East Anglia. Before qualifying as a teacher, he taught International and state school groups and trained local staff whilst working as an Eco-tourism manager for a National Park in rural Zambia. He also spent several years as a Senior Ecologist for a leading British Ecological Consultancy and developed his passion for teaching as a part-time lecturer; writing and delivering modules of an Ecology and Conservation Foundation Degree. Sam received two prizes from the University of Aberdeen, one for the best degree in the year group and the other for the best research project, when he was awarded a First Class degree in Ecology.  He is a joint author on scientific publications following an extensive period studying tropical plant biology in Malaysia and Thailand. He has developed a keen interest in educational research and has successfully published a research project whilst working as a class teacher in England. Because of Sam's research background, he understands the importance of delivering evidence-based teaching and learning and he hopes to continue supporting research into education as his career progresses. As a teacher, he is passionate about generating awe and wonder inside and outside the classroom together with providing children with the opportunity to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to become global citizens in a rapidly developing world. Sam enjoys being outdoors with his binoculars; spotting and identifying wildlife and he gets very excited if he sees a rare bird or mammal. He also enjoys long-distance cycling and he tries to go to the gym everyday to keep as fit as possible.
