Nicholas Dever

Nick has worked as a primary school teacher for 15 years on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Australia. He completed a two year post graduate degree in Education after earlier completing a Bachelor of Applied Science (Human Movement Studies) and Bachelor of Business (Marketing), from the Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane. Nick has a wide range of experience teaching in the primary school setting, having taught Year 3, 5 and 6 as a classroom teacher. His specialty, however, is teaching upper primary school students with the aim to develop their academic and personal skills to fully prepare them for life in Senior (High) School. He also has a passion for sport and has taught Physical Education and Sport lessons to students from Prep through to Year 8. Nick’s philosophy of teaching is to take pride and joy in nurturing children on their journey to both academic and personal success. His goal is to enable students with the necessary skills to engage with and contribute to a global, multi-cultural society and to mold and shape their love of learning. Nick’s rapport with students and expectation of being the best of themselves, is the core essence of his teaching philosophy, as it is also what he strives to live by in his own life. Nick and his wife have a love of travelling and have travelled extensively around the world, including a visit to their sponsor child in Tanzania. Most recently, they took a one-year sabbatical to travel extensively through South and Central America. Nick has also lived in Hertfordshire, England as an overseas cricket player for one season and he coached cricket to a variety of school and club teams during his time in England. Nick also enjoys staying fit and healthy through a variety of exercise including fitness circuits, yoga, bike riding, and hiking. He loves being outdoors and participating in team sports. Nick and his wife are excited to join Huili School and Wellington College International Hangzhou respectively. They are looking forward to the opportunity of teaching in bilngual and international settings and they will both offer a skill set that is unique and experienced with respect to their global view of education and life.
