Krystle Niksch was born and raised in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. After completing her Bachelor of Education degree at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Krystle started her teaching career in Qatar. Although her plan was to spend only two years working abroad, she found herself mesmerised by the culture, lifestyle and ease of travel. She continued to spend a total of five wonderful years working at an international school as a primary teacher in Qatar. As Krystle is fascinated by multicultural and religious diversity, she feels fortunate to have worked with children from over 50 countries around the world in the international setting. Krystle loves working with students and always keeps herself busy with activities in the school community. She coached both athletics and triathlon and enjoyed organising sporting events between different schools for her teams. Along with English, Science is one of Krystle’s passions. She has developed the teaching and learning program in Year 3 to encourage an enthusiasm for science. Creating a teaching plan that is learner-centred and focuses on more hands-on activities was a rewarding task for her. She loved seeing the students make progress in science, grow more confident in using the correct scientific terms to explain their findings, make scientific connections and have fun while they were learning. Outside of the classroom, Krystle enjoys staying active by running and practicing yoga. She firmly believes that bringing some of her yoga practice into the class can help transform the classroom ethos and atmosphere. As yoga helps coordination through fine and gross motor control, it helps increase the student’s strength, flexibility and body awareness while teaching children to take care of their bodies and work safely. Krystle believes that the classroom should be a calm, safe and happy place where we all work together to cultivate better communication, focus and problem-solving skills. Krystle feels incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to move to China and start her new adventure at Huili School Hangzhou. She looks forward to continuing her growth and development as a teacher, surrounded by a new, diverse culture and working alongside bright minds.
