Robert Greer

16 August 2019

Robbie has worked as a secondary music teacher and head of music departments in the North West of England for 5 years since receiving his PGCE.  In addition to his PGCE, Robbie has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in music production, a higher diploma in music production, and a level 3 national diploma in music technology. Throughout his teaching career, Robbie has gained a vast degree of experience in several schools. Completing part of his training in a musical futures champion school enabled him to specialise in developing schemes of learning and assessment centered around independent, practical student study. In his first post, Robbie took charge of a music department where he utilised technology to increase engagement and improve results whilst also developing new events with the wider performing arts team, giving students the opportunity to perform publicly. By working with departments from across the school, he was able to help develop the holistic experience of students within school. In his post prior to moving to Huili School Hangzhou, Robbie was head of music at a large school in the English Lake District. He was responsible for all music programs from grade 7 up to grade 13 at A level which enabled him to develop programs for a wide spectrum of learners and varied content. In this post he was responsible for a large amount of live performance opportunities for students such as a large scale school musical, termly music concerts, festive concerts, music for student celebratory events, and school performances at local festivals and events. Before moving into education Robbie toured the UK and Europe as a performing musician and DJ. He has released original music through several notable record labels which have been played on radio stations including BBC Radio 1 and BBC 1Xtra in the UK and have also been commissioned for TV advertisements. Robbie believes that his passion for music, alongside his experiences within the industry and in education, have helped him become a practitioner that can enable young people to gain self confidence and academic success through a variety of different musical directions and activities. When he is not creating or performing music, Robbie enjoys visiting the gym, playing badminton and he has a keen interest in food. He is also an avid football fan which he enjoys both playing and watching. Robbie is extremely excited about joining Wellington and being part of its incredible continued success alongside a great network of staff, students and parents.  The opportunity to be a part of such an institution where world class facilities and a reputation for excellence come together for the benefit of intelligent and motivated young people is one that he looks forward to with great pride.
