Lucy Donkin

29 October 2018
Lucy has worked as a primary teacher for the past 5 years in both the UK and Egypt. Lucy qualified as a primary school teacher in 2014 after completing her PGCE in Primary and Special Educational Needs at the University of East London. Prior to completing her PGCE Lucy attended Liverpool John Moores University where she graduated in Sports Development and Inclusive Education. Before qualifying as a teacher Lucy worked as a sports coach in both London and Lincolnshire coaching sport to children who had special educational needs including physical and behavioural needs, in particular cerebral palsy and autism. In 2014 Lucy travelled to Egypt to work in an international school teaching Grade 3 students with English as an additional language. After one year she then moved to the Physical Education Department working with the lower primary and foundation stage. Working with children of all abilities and ages has given Lucy a real insight to the progress children can make from the first day they join a school. In her spare time Lucy is a keen sports woman where she enjoys playing and coaching both rugby and football. Before moving internationally Lucy used to play semi professional football, however gave this up to become a teacher. When Lucy was in Egypt she met her future husband, who encouraged her to try rugby and this is where she discovered a love for the sport and became the local girl’s coach as well as a playing member of the adult’s team. Lucy believes that sport has helped her become a more resilient and understanding person, which is something she would like to pass onto the children she teaches.
