每周快讯 | The Week Ahead

本周，惠立学校迎来了惠灵顿（中国）教育集团的年度评审。惠立学校本年度评审团成员由两位英国教育专家Francesca Affleck女士、Dave Byrne先生、上海惠立学校中学部校长戈岩女士以及南通惠立学校小学部校长Jamie Plunkett先生共同担任。惠灵顿（中国）教育集团创始人及理事长乔英女士也莅临参与了此次学校的评审工作并为学校发展提出了新的要求与期望。

This week, the school welcomed the Wellington College China Group Annual Review. This year's panel of judges comprised of two education experts from UK, Ms. Francesca Affleck and Mr. Dave Byrne; Ms. Laura Ge, Head of Junior High, Huili School Shanghai; and Mr. Jamie Plunkett, Principal of Huili Primary School in Nantong. Ms. Joy Qiao, Founder and Chairman of the Wellington College China Group, also attended the school and set new expectations for the school's development.

评审团通过查阅学校教育教学相关工作的各项文件、数据及对数据的分析；进行课堂观摩；与学生、学校管理团队、教研组长、年级组长、教师进行面谈沟通；听取学校管理层汇报等方式对学校工作进行了全面的评审。经过两天的评审，评审团对学校工作总体非常满意，特别认可了学校在高效课堂教学、差异化教学、教学展示及教学环境创设方面所作的创新与付出的努力，同时也在教学及评估相关数据整合与分析方面为学校提出了建设性提议与可行性方案。

The panel was satisfied with the school's work in general and particularly recognised the innovations and efforts made by the school in areas such as efficient classroom teaching, differentiation, and Learning displays. They also made constructive suggestions and recommendations for the school in the areas of integration and analysis of teaching and evaluation related data.

年度评审工作是学校工作非常重要的部分，其最重要的意义在于确保学校始终把教育教学放在学校发展的核心，以学生发展为中心，从而指导学校教职员工每一天的工作。教师们也感言在年度评审工作中感受到了压力，同时也通过回顾、反思自己的教育教学，体会到了责任之担当，以及对学生成长与进步倍感欣慰和自豪。

The Annual Review is an essential part of the school's work. Its most important meaning is that the school always puts education at the heart of its development and puts the development of students at the centre, thus guiding the work of the school staff every day. The teachers also commented on the pressure they felt during the annual review, the responsibility they felt through reviewing and reflecting on their teaching and learning, and the joy they felt for the growth of their students.

在澳大利亚的学习之旅

Studying in Australia – Part 1

许多学生都将英国和美国列为首选大学目的地，毕竟英美有许多享有盛誉的名校。 其实，择校时不少人可能没有考虑过澳大利亚这片土地。澳大利亚有八所名列 QS 高校百强榜的院校和不少世界顶尖的研究机构。澳大利亚提供不少优质的高等教育求学机会，在做择校决定前可以用更加开放的心态去考虑。接下来，我将向大家分享在澳大利亚求学的优势。

The majority of pupils I meet list the UK and the US as their preferred destinations for university. It is understandable as both locations have a wide variety of institutions with excellent reputations. However, Australia, a country with eight universities listed in the top 100 QS rankings and some of the best research institutions in the world, is often overlooked. Nevertheless, there are some fantastic higher education opportunities in Australia, and it is certainly approaching the idea with an open mind before making a decision. I will be sharing some of the great advantages of an Australian university experience, starting with this week’s academic benefits:

全球认可 Global recognition

澳大利亚高校在护理和医疗保健、化学、生物学、数学和工程学等广泛领域提供高质量的学术课程。 澳大利亚的高校学历得到世界各地的普遍认可与推崇，将为学生的简历锦上添花。

Australian universities offer high quality academic programmes in an extensive range of fields, including nursing and healthcare, chemistry, biology, mathematics, and engineering. Degrees obtained here are recognised and highly respected worldwide, making them valuable to every student’s CV.

学习方式 Learning style

 

澳大利亚高校可为留学生提供学习指导，由教师提供讲座和小班辅导， 课程包括论文、小组作业和个人作业指导。学生应具备独立思考的能力和创造性思维，努力获取实践经验。此外，澳大利亚高校鼓励学生学习选修课，有助于让学生获得更广泛和更具针对性的学术体验。

Australia provides guided learning to international students. Teachers deliver lectures and small class tutorials. The courses consist of essays, group work and individual assignments. Students are expected to think independently and creatively, and gaining practical experience is always encouraged. There is also a healthy emphasis on studying electives to gain a broader and more tailored academic experience.

学校申请 Application

 

相比美国，澳大利亚的高校申请系统更为简单（也更容易）。比起录取率低、顶尖高校竞争尤为激烈的美国，澳大利亚高校的申请系统和签证流程去繁取简，意味着对留学生更友好、更热情。

The application system for Australian universities is far simpler (and easier) than its US counterpart. The streamlined application system and visa process mean that Australian universities have a friendlier and more welcoming approach to international students than the US, where acceptance rates are low, and it is incredibly competitive for places in top universities.

就业机会 Work opportunities

 

在澳大利亚，留学生持学生签证最多可每周工作 40 小时，而英国只允许 20 小时工时。因此，学生可以在获得工作经验的同时帮助自己的完成学业。 毕业后学生可以申请临时毕业生签证，留在澳大利亚，开启职场生涯。

International students can work up to 40 hours a week in Australia on a student visa, compared with only 20 hours in the UK. This will allow students to gain experience in work while helping to fund their studies. After graduation, students can apply for Temporary Graduate visas to stay and work. 

下周我将继续分享在澳大利亚学习的优点，并重点强调择校需要考虑的其他因素，即生活方式和健康因素。

I will continue to share the benefits of studying in Australia next week, where I will be highlighting the other considerations that drive the university decision making process: lifestyle and wellbeing factors.

Scholarships are one way of recognising academic achievement and dedication to following the Huili values in our school. 

所有申请奖学金的学生都发挥出色，充分展现自己的个性、成就与领导力才能。在此，我们隆重宣布，当前两位学生获得者已蝉联奖学金，另有三位初中部七、八年级学生荣获奖学金。五位学生将以身作则，为其他学子树立榜样。

All of the pupils did exceptionally well, and as a leadership team, it is wonderful to see the array of personalities and achievements that our pupils can demonstrate and discuss. We are incredibly proud to announce that both of our current scholars have retained their scholarship status whilst being joined by a further three scholars across grades 7 and 8. All five pupils will continue to be an asset to their peers, leading by example and encouraging others to do the same.

Next week is careers week, where all our lessons will be highlighting and thinking about the future and how subjects relate to the world of work. Pupils will have the opportunity to explore various career paths and start to think about making choices that will lead them to success. We are also looking forward to welcoming our parents onsite for our coffee morning sessions, which are an opportunity for you to meet our new Junior High Deputy Head – Jack Zhao, as well as your child’s Grade Leader.

中国有句古话“一屋不扫，何以扫天下”，整洁的校园环境不仅有利于同学们的健康，更有助于提高审美能力，培养独立人格和良好的自我管理能力，增强集体荣誉感。在过去的两个星期，惠立小学高年级全体师生齐心协力，共同完成了校园环境的提升。

There is an old Chinese saying, “If one can’t even clean up his/her house, he/she is unlikely to do something big.” A clean and tidy school environment is good for pupils’ health and improves their aesthetic ability and independence. It will also strengthen their sense of group honour. During the past two weeks, upper primary pupils and teachers have worked collaboratively and improved the campus environment significantly.

惠立小学的校园布置是充满生命力的隐性课堂，潜移默化地影响着同学们的审美情趣。班级布置、走廊展板、读书角、花卉盆景、学生作品陈列……每一处景观都有机地将教育性、趣味性、艺术性融为一体，诉说着惠立学校的历史文化，记录着同学们的成长历程，蕴含着老师们的精心设计，更承载着学校对同学们的美好期望。

The campus decoration of our primary is a hidden classroom full of vitality, which subtly affects the aesthetic ability of our pupils. Classroom decorations, corridor display boards, reading corners, beautiful plants, and pupil works organically integrate teaching, enjoyment and art, telling the history and culture of Huili School Hangzhou. They record the pupils’ growth experience and carry the school’s expectations.

在共同营造良好环境的过程中，同学们提高了自律性、独立性，培养了良好的生活习惯。老子说：“天下难事，必作于易；天下大事，必作于细”，看上去举重若轻的良好环境背后是同学日如一日的自律，塑造环境的同时，也是修炼了品格。

In the process of jointly creating a good campus environment, pupils improved their independent ability and self-discipline, getting into a good living habit. Lao Tzu said: “all difficult matters must start from easy steps; all great undertakings have small beginnings.” It seems easy to have a good environment, but actually, it requires pupils’ long term self-discipline day by day. The pupils’ characters have also been shaped in the process of producing a positive environment.

同时这也是锻炼学生团结协作精神，培养集体荣誉感的良好契机。在过去的两个星期里，老师对班级卫生管理进行精细化分工，指定专人负责；同学们争相参与，为营造良好的环境贡献自己的力量，践行了惠立价值观中的责任。

It is also an excellent opportunity to foster pupils’ teamwork spirit and sense of group honour. Our teachers have assigned the classroom environment duties to designated pupils during the past two weeks. Pupils have actively participated in these activities, eagerly contributing to creating a good learning environment. They have demonstrated the Huili value responsibility.

著名教育家叶圣陶曾说过：“教育就是习惯的培养”。我们也建议家长在家鼓励孩子们勤于劳动，不弃微末、不舍寸功，在创造的过程中培养审美，在劳动的过程中锤炼意志，在优美的环境中涵养心灵。

The famous educator, Shengtao Ye, once said: “Education is to develop good habits”. Parents can also encourage pupils to grasp every opportunity to be diligent in labour activities at home, which will help develop their aesthetic ability in the creation, shape their willpower during the exercise and nurture their heart in a beautiful environment.

受天气状况影响，原定于本周与杭州威雅学校开展的触式橄榄球赛取消；比赛将择期举行，让队员们一展运动风采。周四，初中部女子羽毛球队对阵杭州国际学校校队，并以出色的表现在单、双打比赛中占据优势。感谢王老师在本赛季为球队建设做出的贡献。

 The pupils were extremely excited to test their touch rugby skills against Wycombe Abbey this week. However, the fixture was rescheduled due to weather conditions. The junior high girls faced Hangzhou International School in badminton on Thursday. The girls played incredibly well and were dominant in singles and doubles matches. Well done to Mr Wang for all his hard work with the badminton team this season.

惠灵顿杭州校区第二场音乐剧——儿童版《苏斯狂想曲》将于2022年6月底在学校大剧院上演。目前，演出准备工作正在有序开展。

We are thrilled to be working towards our second musical production at Wellington College Hangzhou: Seussical Jr. The Musical will take place in our school theatre at the end of June 2022.

奇幻音乐剧《苏斯狂想曲》由托尼奖获得者林恩·埃伦斯和史蒂芬·弗拉赫蒂共同创作，剧中角色有大象霍顿、帽中猫和颇受欢迎的苏斯博士等角色。

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all your favourite Dr Seuss characters spring to life on stage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.

在帽中猫的讲述中，观众将跟随大象霍顿发现尘埃中的小人国，完成从丛林到马戏团的天马行空的旅程。

Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos.

本周三，本学期第二堂学习实验室校园活动开启，参与其中的学生一致认为该校园活动独具特色。他们积极讨论并制定小组行为守则及今后的学习大方向。学习实验室是一个由十年级优秀学生组成的学习小组，专门为小学部高年级学生提供，是别出心裁又内容丰富的一门校园活动课。课程目标是发展和提高小学部高年级学生的学术学习技能和沟通技能。在惠立，我们相信不论是面向朋友、班级、当地社区、还是更广阔的世界舞台，为他人服务都是学生不可或缺的学习体验，也是优秀双语教育的预期成果。我们为有这样一群致力于学习实验室项目的优秀十年级学子而感到自豪。十年级年级组长赵老师将为整个课程提供监督和指导。同学们迫不及待地想要将自己在学术和个人发展方面的知识、经验和技能等传授给年少的惠立学弟学妹，希望帮助他们更好地了解初中阶段的学习情况，在不远的未来顺利完成小升初的过渡。

This Wednesday, the second Learning Lab session took place. All students involved found this SA is unique. Learning Lab is a special enrichment SA for upper primary pupils run by Grade 10 students. They aim to develop and enhance upper primary pupils’ academic learning and communication skills. At Huili, we consider service, whether offered to a friend, a class, the local community, or the world beyond, to be both a necessary learning experience for every student and an expected outcome of an outstanding bilingual education. We are very proud to have this group of fantastic Grade 10 students committed to the Learning Lab programme. The Grade 10 Leader will monitor and guide these students throughout the programme. The Grade 10 students are looking forward to using their knowledge, experience, and skills to contribute to the growth of younger Huili pupils, both academically and personally. Furthermore, they hope to help these upper primary students better understand Junior High's expectations and have a smooth transition from primary school to middle school in the coming years.
