At Huili Primary School, we believe that involving pupils in the decision-making process is vital for creating an inclusive, supportive, and empowering learning environment. We understand the importance of listening to our pupils and considering their opinions and ideas when making decisions.

Our school council meets regularly to discuss issues that matter to the pupils, share their thoughts and views, and suggest ways to improve our school continually. Most recently the focus for these meetings has been on the curriculum. We asked the council members to share their thoughts on what they want to learn, where they want to learn it and how they want to learn.  As a result, we have reviewed the curriculum to incorporate the approaches and learning experiences that pupils have asked for. This will make learning more engaging, relevant, and meaningful for our pupils.

In addition to the School Council meetings, we have also conducted Pupil Perception interviews with pupils across the school to gather their views and opinions. These interviews have provided us with valuable insights into what works well and what needs improvement in our school and have been taken into consideration when reviewing our curriculum.

Research has shown that involving pupils in the decision-making process can have numerous benefits for both pupils and schools. For example, a study by the Education Endowment Foundation found that giving pupils the opportunity to take greater control over their learning can lead to increased motivation, engagement, and better academic outcomes. This supports the importance of involving pupils in decision-making processes, and why we believe it is vital at Huili Primary School.

At Huili, we emphasise the importance of involving pupils in decision-making processes. By listening to their opinions and considering their ideas, we can create an empowering learning environment that supports pupils' development and fosters a sense of ownership over their learning. This process is an excellent example of how we involve our pupils in decision-making processes, ensuring that everyone has a voice and works towards a common goal.
