Primary pupils will study Mandarin, English, Maths, Sciences, Arts and Personal and Social Development through the very highest standards as set by Chinese National Curriculum from Hangzhou and the UK national curricula.
The Primary School’s curriculum is designed to ensure that there is a strong connection across all areas of learning. Pupils follow the Wellington College China immersion model in which pupils experience about 50% of their learning in Mandarin and 50% in English. However, the learning is connected so language acquisition is complimentary. This is achieved by using the Zhejiang Province and Chinese National Curriculum as a rigorous framework and weaving into this the very best bilingual and primary practices from around the world.
The Hiba Junior High curriculum follows the compulsory Chinese curriculum with the addition of an adapted version of the Secondary School National Curriculum of England. The Junior High Curriculum considers Chinese, Math, Science and English as core lessons and as such more time during the weekly timetable is devoted to teaching these subjects. As a bilingual school, based in Hangzhou, the curriculum also includes all the other Chinese compulsory components, such as Chinese Social Studies, alongside incorporating subjects such as English Social Studies to ensure a holistic and balanced curriculum.
Pre A Level
The Pre A Level programme has been designed to offer the best of both worlds: IGCSE qualifications and a solid foundation for A Level studies. Pupils will sit three IGCSEs (English as a Second Language, First Language Chinese and Mathematics) at the end of the academic year. Alongside our learners’ external qualifications, they will also have the option to study A Level foundation courses in Physics, Chemistry, Economics and Art. Each of these courses has been designed to offer students a solid foundation of knowledge, technical vocabulary and practical skills to enable a smooth transition to A Level studies. By offering a broad academic curriculum, we aim to provide the best possible preparation for A Level studies.
