The Academy programme at Wellington College Hangzhou is designed to meet the various demands of our pupils. It is central to the educational philosophy at the school and provides our pupils with ample opportunities to expand new horizons, discover their interests and pursue them with passion.  The 2023-24 Semester 1 is approaching. Programmes for All Age Groups

Golf is an outdoor ball sport. The golf course is taught by a professional team of certified teachers. In the course, pupils will learn the basic skills and rules of golf, as well as the culture and etiquette of Golf. In addition to normal classes, the golf course also offers unique private lessons.

The tennis course offers classes for different age groups, so both beginners and advanced learners can choose the appropriate level of class. We also offer private lessons, allowing each pupil to receive personalized teaching and guidance.

In musical centre stage, pupils will participate in recordings and performances at the end of the semester.

Nursery——“The Little Prince” adaptation

"The Little Prince" tells the story of a pilot who crashes in the Sahara Desert. By chance, he meets the little prince from outer space. Through eight days of communication and interaction with the little prince, the pilot learns about the peculiar situation on the little prince's planet and his adventures in space: the little prince had visited the planets of a king, a vain man, a drunkard, a merchant, a lamplighter, and a geographer. Finally, he arrived on Earth, where he encountered a snake, a rose, a fox, a switchman, and a merchant. It was these rich experiences that helped him understand the meaning of life and the essence of existence.

Primary & Secondary schools——" Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" adaptation

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" is a film adaptation of Roald Dahl's novel of the same name, published in 1964. The main character of the film, Charlie, is a kind-hearted young boy. Along with other four children, Charlie wins a golden ticket that enables them to visit a mysterious chocolate factory. The children arrive at the peculiar factory, which has not been visited in 15 years, and embark on a mysterious and unpredictable adventure.

The course content is specially designed for young children. A multi-staged teaching system centring young children has been developed according to the psychological characteristics of children of different ages and their acceptance of language learning. The curriculum includes introductory classes with children's songs and picture books, basic classes based on phonics and extended reading, and advanced classes based on original textbooks. The curriculum design is based on Spanish language, with subject knowledge as the background, to stimulate children's potential language talents and help children build international cultural awareness. 

Spanish courses will be divided into different classes to meet the needs of pupils. Many pupils have progressed from primary courses to advanced courses after several semesters of study and have gradually become proficient in the language.

Original textbook "Lola y Leo" (three books)

*"Lola y Leo" is a series of activity-based foreign language textbooks. Pupils follow the teacher to sing, draw, discuss, listen, speak, and role-play, learning Spanish through a series of activities that stimulate their interest.

In the karate course, children will learn different fighting stances to consolidate their core strength. With the foundation of stable stances, pupils will further learn attacking techniques, kicking techniques, and some simple combinations of movements. Learning various types of footwork switching and movement, target aiming, free hand grouping, etc., pupils can master basic self-defence skills and strengthen their bodies. Through continuous study, pupils have better mastered karate skills and successfully passed the belt promotion assessment in the previous semester.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is mainly based on ground fighting technique training. The warm-up training will be integrated with fun and educational tumbling and crawling training, which can improve children's body agility and flexibility. At the end of the warm-up, the teacher will explain the ground self-defence and submission techniques. Through practical games, pupils will build a solid athletic foundation and body strength, boosting self-confidence. The course is widely offered in Nursery, Primary and Secondary schools providing students with long-term, systematic, and stable Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.

Nursery

"Speech and Eloquence" is a language specialized course. The basic objective of this course is to strengthen language foundation and correct pronunciation. In addition to regular training such as basic oral exercises and stability training of breath control, we will also incorporate other language specialized training such as recitation, simulated hosting, column interviewing, fun dubbing, and documentary learning.

Creative painting course encourage children to express themselves through activities such as colouring, cutting, and collaging. Creative painting helps enhance children's imagination and creativity, allowing them to create freely based on their preferred themes or scenes. Through various artistic activities, it can effectively stimulate the creativity and imagination of nursery children, cultivate their artistic literacy and aesthetic ability, and improve their overall quality eventually.

Comprehensive and balanced sports training is crucial to children in the Early Year period. Scientific sports training can increase children's interest and enthusiasm in sports, thus benefiting them to develop life-long habits. In this program, pupils will try BOSU ball training, battling ropes training, interval aerobic training, balance and coordination training, strength development stretching and joint flexibility training.

Learning with LEGO in the Early Year period can lay a solid foundation for children’s future logical thinking. LEGO emphasizes creative play experience, which helps to cultivate children’s cooperation and communication skills. In addition, the process of building with LEGO also helps pupils develop good manual dexterity and spatial imagination skills. With the guidance of the teacher, learning to read LEGO blueprints can help pupils learn basic math expressions (such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) as well as become familiar with various geometric shapes. Installing LEGO models can help pupils establish a concept of order; when sorting LEGO parts, pupils can classify them by colour and shape, further cultivating their logical thinking skills.

As we all know, Africa is the continent of music, and the most representative musical instrument in Africa is the African drum. The African drum has only three basic tones - high, medium, and low, making it very easy for pupils to learn. After mastering basic playing skills, pupils can easily play drum music related to specific life scenes in their daily lives.

Making clay sculptures by hand can help pupils develop their capability of action, thinking, creating, and hand-eye coordination, promoting their brain development. Pupils can make their products with fingers, imagination, and creative minds. This course will use Eco-friendly ultralight clay, which is a prevailing material that can be used in integrated creation. When children focus on the making process, their ability to create and appreciate art will be improved under an artistic, fun, and creative atmosphere.

In each session, the teacher will lead the pupils to complete a small piece of artwork such as cartoon characters, paintings of landscapes, or flowers....... 

Primary & Secondary schools

Chinese traditional painting generally refers to the style of painting on rice paper or silk products with brushes, water, ink, and pigments. According to art divisions, Chinese traditional painting can be divided into three major categories: figures, landscapes, and flowers and birds. Learning Chinese traditional painting can cultivate one’s sentiments, broaden one's mind, making pupils experience the unique charm of traditional Chinese poetry, calligraphy, painting, and stamping. Our Chinese traditional painting teachers all have decades of painting experience and are well-known in the field. At the same time, they also have rich teaching experience. They will provide pupils with step-by-step instruction to stimulate their artistic talent while fostering their interest in painting and integrating systematic skill instruction, which can help them better prepare for attending CCPT.

Beginner Level: Practicing the painting of flowers and birds, pupils will consolidate the mastery of brushwork, ink, and the properties of Chinese paints. Through training, pupils will learn about the characteristics of plants and animals and practice the ability to shape and compose them. Pupils will study the theoretical knowledge of Chinese traditional painting layout and inscriptions and seals.

Intermediate Level: Pupils will systematically learn traditional painting techniques through copying classic masterpieces of landscapes and flower and bird. Also, pupils will improve their skills in composition and layout, modelling, and colour analysis in the painting exercise. Moreover, pupils will try to create simple sketches under the guidance of the teacher after appreciating the masterpieces of the past dynasties and gaining a preliminary understanding of the history of Chinese traditional painting. 

Ballet is one of the most famous classical dances in the world. Ballet dancing helps pupils improve their physical coordination and musicianship, shape graceful figures, and cultivate elegant temperament. 

The programme will focus on children’s basic skills and the practice of ground movements. For pupils with a ballet foundation, the teacher will adjust the teaching content and appropriately add dance movements based on the students' learning progress. Pupils will learn a series of dancing movements, trying to perform a whole and beautiful dance program at the end of this semester, which can help them better experience the performance art of ballet. 

The course is equipped with excellent teaching staff to provide pupils with systematic ballet skills instruction. During the class, teachers will guide pupils in scientific and systematic ballet practice and dance rehearsal. After attending ballet classes at school, pupils' abilities are fully sufficient to participate in national ballet grading exams.

This course is divided into beginner courses and advanced courses. The beginner courses focus on ballet initiation education and basic training, allowing children to receive a more comprehensive ballet training. The advanced courses include classical ballet performances (variations) and foreign folk dance performances. Through the course, pupils can perform ballet pieces independently.

Archery is a technical sport. Pupils can improve their archery skills through continuous archery learning under the guidance of teachers. Our school's archery program has achieved remarkable results, and pupils have enthusiastically signed up for the City Archery League. Through short-term learning, they have made into the top eight in the City Archery League, demonstrating their outstanding talent and ability in the field of archery.

The IELTS and TOEFL course offered by our school is a professional English language course designed to help pupils excel in the test. The course consists of four courses: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, providing students with comprehensive guidance and training for the test. Our teachers have rich teaching experience and excellent teaching abilities. Through the course, pupils will be able to comprehensively improve their English proficiency, master test skills and strategies, so that they can finally achieve excellent results.

Synchronized Swimming, named Water Ballet or Aquatic Dancing. It’s a kind of water sports. And it’s also the official Olympic events. It’s divided into Solo, Duet, Team and Combination of project.

Synchronized Swimming started from 1920. Synchronized Swimming is the sports from Olympic Game globally to National Game domestically. Synchronized Swimming has been the popular class in lots British and American universities.

Synchronized Swimming is integrated with the multi-sports which included in swimming, dancing, music, and gymnastics. It’s especially suitable for 6-18years old school children. It will have very great development culture for the child’s own image of temperament, physical development, health and self-confidence.

This course will improve pupils' aerobic endurance, strength, speed, and technical movement in preparation for race teams and swimming competitions.

We will provide a number of interesting mathematical activities to let the children feel the fun of learning mathematics, which includes fun activities, interesting mathematical reasoning, famous mathematical theorems, and various mathematical games. children will have more comprehensive understanding of this interesting and useful and attractive subject whiling playing with maths.
