Message from the Principal
本周惠灵顿杭州校区迎来了惠灵顿（中国）集团首席执行官、理事Helen Kavanagh女士和惠灵顿（中国）教育研究院院长杜丽娟女士的访校，她们听取了学校管理层学年初工作准备以及学年发展计划的汇报，肯定了学校开学初以来取得的阶段性教育教学成果，并对学校后续工作提出了纲领性指导建议。我们相信在集团的引领下，杭州惠立学校必将谱写出卓越双语教育新篇章。
This week, Ms. Helen Kavanagh, Chief Executive Officer and Dr. Lijuan Du, Senior Director of Academics Institute of Learning visited our Hangzhou campus. After learning about the school’s preparation for the beginning of this academic year and our development plans, they were impressed by the achievements made so far and offered guidance and suggestions for the next stage. We believe that under the guidance of Wellington College China, Huili School Hangzhou will create another new chapter in providing an excellent bilingual education.
十一国庆即将来临，本周惠立校园里开展了红歌表演、诗歌朗诵、民族服饰日等活动，学生们纵情歌唱、展示，献礼国庆，共同庆祝祖国华诞荣光。
National Day is around the corner. Various activities are taking place in Huili School Hangzhou including singing, poem recitation about the love for the country and dressing up in ethnic costumes to celebrate the birthday of our motherland.

Sixth Form Matters
在IGCSE课程的最后一年中，时光就如白驹过隙。虽然本学年刚开始不久，但我们也要展望中学时期最后的高中阶段。在最后的两年时间里，学生们将要学习三门自选A Level科目并申请大学。A Level课程被誉为16岁后教育的黄金标准，受到世界各地大学的广泛认可，也是最受大多数英国学生欢迎的大学升学课程。通过学习颇具挑战的A Level课程，学生将掌握出色的学科知识和技能，为大学学习做足准备。
It seems that the phrase ‘time flies’ is never truer than during the final year of IGCSEs. No sooner have we started this academic year that we must now look ahead to the final stage of senior school, the Sixth Form. During these final two years, pupils will study three A Levels (Advanced Levels) of their choice and apply for university. A Levels are the gold standard of post 16 education and the most popular route into higher education for UK pupils. They are highly regarded by institutions across the world because the challenging nature of the A Level course enables pupils to develop specialist subject knowledge and technical skills while providing excellent preparation for university.
为帮助学生选择A Level科目，我们诚邀您和孩子一同参加于10月15日（周五）晚5点至7点在杭州惠灵顿外籍人员子女学校中庭召开的高中部选课信息分享会。届时，将由我概述高中部的学术课程，再由各学科负责人具体介绍课程详情。
In order to help our pupils decide which A Levels to study, we will be hosting the Sixth Form Options Evening on Friday 15 October from 5:00-7:00pm at the Wellington College International Hangzhou school atrium. At this event I will outline the academic curriculum in Sixth Form and afterwards the heads of each academic subject will be available to share the details of their courses.
从IGCSE和A Level课程，这一步常被称为“跳跃”，意即A level课程的要求更高、需要学生投入更多的时间和精力开展课外学习。学生要选择自己感兴趣的科目，在兴趣的驱使下，学生就能完成作业和额外的阅读任务，更成功地完成这场“跳跃”。
The difference between studying for IGCSEs and A Levels is usually referred to as a ‘jump’, meaning that the A Level programme is much more demanding and requires far more time and commitment outside of lessons. It is important that pupils choose subjects that they enjoy. If a pupil enjoys the subject, then they will be able to complete the work and extra reading and handle the ‘jump’ with far greater success.
做好A Level科目选择是学生追随自身学术热情、走向未来专业领域的第一步。我们将协助学生做好选择，也热烈期待着同学们未来的学业表现。
Choosing one's A Level subjects is the first stepping stone that pupils make towards specialising in their future field and following their academic passions. We are excited to be supporting our learners through this process and cannot wait to see where their journeys take them.

Pupils in Grades 9 and 10 and the Pre A Level class have been given their individual logins to start building their portfolios. Our university advisers will be using this beneficial resource in their weekly lessons with the pupils right up until their applications are sent off in their final year of school.

The first of many exciting online events include a webinar specifically for pupils in Asia. Junior High Matters
教学质量评估是为学生提供优质教育和促进教师发展的重要组成部分。本周，每一位教学团队成员均接受了至少两位初中部中层管理团队的课堂观摩并收到了高质量的反馈。这为教师提供了宝贵的提升机会，有助于实现持续进步，明确学生在新学年的教学需求。我们为所有初中部的教师感到骄傲，并对教师与学生抱有很高的期待。我们希望培养学生对学习负责的态度和独立学习的能力。本周的教学实践中，我们尤其强调这一点，与教学团队共同找出提高实现这一目标的方法，拓展教学的深度来加快学习的进程。
Assessing our quality of teaching and learning is integral to provision of education for our pupils, but also the development of our staff. This week in Junior High all members of our teaching team have been observed by at least two members of the senior team. This provides quality feedback and development opportunities for our staff to ensure that we are continually progressing and also identifies the needs of our pupils as they settle into the new academic year. We are proud of our teachers in Junior High, we have high expectations of both our own practices, and also of our pupils. We want to develop their ability to take responsibility for their learning and become independent learners. This transition is evident in our teaching practices this week as we work with our teaching team to identify how they can make this happen and challenge the pupils in their class to accelerate learning.

We are starting the term with Grade specific coffee events for our parents, as well as our activity days for Grade 7 and Grade 8. Upper Primary Matters
泱泱华夏，巍巍中华，千年文明，历代传承。为热烈庆祝中华人民共和国成立72周年，引导学生树立正确的人生观、价值观，弘扬爱国情怀，增强学生的民族自信心和民族认同感，小学部三至六年级进行了为期一周的国庆庆祝活动。
China is a great country with a long history and rich culture. To celebrate the 72nd birthday of the People's Republic of China, G3 to G6 pupils held a week-long celebration, through which we also aim to guide pupils to establish correct values, to promote patriotism and to enhance pupils’ ethnic confidence and national identity.
周一的集会上，小学各年级的同学们用稚嫩的嗓音来共同歌唱祖国。三年级的同学用《我和我的祖国》唱响了自己对祖国的依恋之情，四年级的同学们《我的祖国》则借祖国的壮美河山和英雄儿女来歌颂祖国。五年级同学带来的《少年强则中国强》则以“我口唱我心”，用歌声表现了年轻一代学子的责任和担当；六年级则为我们带来了气势恢宏的《共和国之恋》。学生们用他们饱含情感的歌声，为祖国送上了最诚挚的生日祝福。最后，五、六年级的学生代表们朗诵《少年中国说》，传递出新一代有志少年的精神风貌。
At the assembly on Monday, pupils from each grade performed beautiful songs for our motherland. G3 pupils performed “My Motherland and Me” to express their love for our country; G4 pupils passionately sang “My Motherland” to praise the motherland with its magnificent rivers and mountains and heroic sons and daughters. G5 pupils brought us the poetry “If the young people are strong, the country will be strong” to express their responsibility and aspirations; G6 pupils performed the magnificent song “Love for the People's Republic of China”. All pupils expressed their sincerest birthday wishes to our motherland. Finally, G5 and G6 pupil representatives recited “On our Young China”, which conveyed the spirit of a new aspiring young generation.

On Thursday, pupils joined the celebration on “Ethnic Costumes”. They dressed in different costumes and confidently showed the charm of traditional Chinese ethnic costumes. To strengthen pupils’ understanding of ethic culture, the Chinese teaching team combined activities inside and outside the classroom to help pupils learn more about the cultural knowledge behind ethnic costumes through investigation and research.
我们相信，每一位惠立学子未来会成为中国文化的使者，将中国精神、价值观和灿烂文化带给全世界。
We believe that each Huili pupil will grow into an ambassador of Chinese culture in the future, bringing Chinese spirit, values and splendid culture to the world.

Lower Primary Matters
非常感谢家长们愿意支持并参与到学生的学习旅程中，这是我在惠立社群非常珍惜的一件事。本周四，我们与各班家长代表在低年级首场集会上度过了非常愉快的时光。家长代表们也积极为学部的新放学安排出谋划策。关于新的放学安排，我会再单独邮件告知所有低年级学生家长。
One of the many things that I treasure and appreciate about the Huili community is the willingness of our families to always support the school and share in their child’s journey. We have enjoyed a fantastic experience with our parent representatives this week in bringing to life our very first celebration of learning. Our parent reps have also contributed to our new dismissal plan and routines that I will communicate in a separate letter to all Lower Primary families.

As a team we are currently working on the information and feedback received from our baseline assessment, Cat4 and NGRT tests and we are hard at work planning and preparing for the individual journeys of each of our pupils. A few themes came through clearly and we are looking forward to sharing more about this with you at our Positive Parenting session on 15 October.

It is with great excitement that I am able to announce the appointment of Ms. Angy Patoroyo or ‘Ms V’ as she is known by our pupils as the Garde 2 Year Group Lead. Currently in her third year at Huili School, Ms Angy has played an instrumental role in the transformation of our Lower Primary school. I am confident that her dedication and enthusiasm for our community will inspire everyone that has the opportunity to work with her as Grade 2 lead.

本周，惠灵顿杭州校区出席了首场12岁以下和15岁以下男女越野跑比赛。越野跑是一项艰巨的体能和意志的对抗。许多同学顺利完成了3,000米的赛程，体现出优秀的体能和强大的意志。
Wellington College Hangzhou attended the first ever Cross-country meet this week. The meet consisted of boys and girls aged under 12 and under 15. Cross country is a gruelling event of stamina and determination and many of our children showed such traits when completing the 3km course.
此次迎战贝赛斯国际学校的比赛中，惠灵顿杭州校区包揽12岁以下男女组和15岁以下男女组冠军。祝贺以下获奖选手。
Wellington College Hangzhou were triumphant winners of the U12 boys and girls’ event and the U15 boys and girls’ event against Basis School Hangzhou. Congratulations to the following participants:

动人的音乐、灵动的舞步和激昂的演讲让表演艺术中心焕发出蓬勃的生机。九年级的戏剧课精彩无限：从《麦克白》到奥斯卡·王尔德，同学们积极探索戏剧独白。九年级的音乐课也不逊色，随着音乐元素的初步学习告一段落，同学们将在黄金周后开展对第一项既定任务的评估。十年级同学正在进行作曲作业，并将完成对巴赫的《勃兰登堡协奏曲》的分析作业。
Our Performing Arts Centre is alive with music, dance steps and declamations. We are very excited about our first cohort of grade 9 drama pupils; they have been exploring monologues ranging from Macbeth to Oscar Wilde. Grade 9 music pupils have completed their initial study of musical elements; they will begin appraising their first set-work after golden week. Grade 10 have been completing their composition coursework and finalising the analysis work of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto.

感谢家长们对学校工作一如既往的关心和支持。本月17日，杭州惠立学校召开了本学年首次膳食委员会会议，由家长代表、校方代表及索迪斯餐饮公司代表共同出席。会议确认了本学年膳食委员会家长代表成员及其所代表的学部和年级，并针对近期惠立家长关心的一些餐饮问题进行了讨论和答疑。会后，家长代表们也利用这次机会体验了学校当日的午餐。您可以点击此处链接查阅本次会议纪要。
On 17 September, Huili School Hangzhou held the first food committee meeting for this academic year. Parent, school and Sodexo (our catering company) representatives attended. The parent representatives for each grade and school were confirmed and all the questions regarding the catering service were discussed and answered. Parent representatives also took the opportunity to observe and enjoy the lunch service after the meeting. Please click HERE to view the meeting minutes.
为了丰富学生对世界文化的了解，惠立学校和餐饮公司一起定制了“美食文化节计划”即每月一次不同餐饮文化的主题午餐，而“新疆美食”则是9月的特别午餐主题。当天，学生们品尝到了新疆的各色美食，包括新疆羊肉烤包子、新疆过油肉拌面、新疆椒麻鸡等。
To enrich pupils’ understanding of different cultures, Huili School Hangzhou and Sodexo catering company have customised a Food Festival plan which provides monthly themed lunches for the year. The theme for September was Xinjiang food. Pupils thoroughly enjoyed the delicious Xinjiang food, including roast mutton bun, meat noodles, and pepper chicken.
