时光飞逝，转眼2021年岁末已至。回首这一年，惠立社群一起度过了发展与成长的一年。

How time flies. The year 2021 has come to an end. Yet, the Huili community has witnessed development and growth, looking back through the past year.

 

这一年，学校始终关注学生的全面发展，学生们在课堂内外参与了丰富多彩的活动。英文演讲、辩论活动、主题活动、数学周、中国传统节日庆祝活动、宋“潮”博览会等历史人文活动等等从课堂延伸到课外的学生学习、探究项目仍历历在目。学生们也从这些课内外活动中收获了品格与文化底蕴的培养，知识与技能的提升。

The school has focused on pupils’ all-round development in the past year, providing opportunities to attend varied activities. For example, English speeches, debating, theme activities, Maths week, traditional Chinese festivals, the Song Dynasty, activities in and outside the classrooms were designed to explore where they built up characters, learnt about cultural heritage, and enhanced knowledge and skills.

惠立学子在校外活动、竞赛中也获得了诸多令人瞩目的成绩，模拟联合国、世界学者杯，全球激励领导力、计算机、数学、机器人等学科类竞赛都取得了不俗的佳绩。学生们在自己擅长的领域绽放着属于自己的精彩。

Huili pupils also made remarkable achievements in extracurricular activities and competitions, including Model United Nations, World Scholars Cup, COBIS GSL World Catalyst, computing, mathematics, and robots. I am proud of our pupils demonstrating themselves in the fields they excel.

在惠立之友和家长们的大力支持之下，夏日嘉年华在六月如期而至，整个杭州惠灵顿杭州社群共同庆祝和见证了惠灵顿和惠立学子的成长。学校艺术展厅在十月正式揭幕，学生们的艺术作品将有了更专业的展示区域。我们期待学生们创作出更多精彩、创意十足的艺术作品。运动日，学生们积极参与体育活动，展现了卓越的体育精神。本学期，学校足球、篮球、游泳队等校队与杭州市的其他学校共同举办了多达六十余次跨校联赛，在这些比赛中，学生们锻炼了自己的意志力，面对逆境的心理弹力，以及团队合作能力。

With massive support from FOH and parents, the Summer Carnival was a great success in June. The whole community celebrated the growth of Wellington and Huili pupils. In October, our art gallery opened, creating a more professional display area for pupils’ works. We look forward to more outstanding and creative artworks. During sports day, pupils actively participated in games and showed sportsmanship. More than 60 fixtures have taken place this semester, including football, basketball, swimming. Through these contests, pupils strengthened their resilience and improved teamwork.

社会服务方面，惠立社群的各学院都开展了一系列慈善活动，粉红着装日，扶轮社捐赠活动等等。接下来，在十年级家长代表的大力支持下，我们将开展“梦想屋”活动，为需要关爱的孩子实现小小的梦想。学生们通过自己的行动，为需要帮助的人提供自己的帮助，并由此在给予、付出和帮助中获得了真正的幸福感。

Houses arranged charity events in the Huili community, such as Pink Day and Winter Clothes Drive. Next, we will arrange “Dream House” with the support from G10 parent representatives to help children in need realise their dreams. Our pupils assist those in need and will experience happiness from giving and helping.

十一月，杭州惠立学校获得中国英国商会与英国政府共同举办的英式学校奖中的赋能学生以及员工发展两个奖项的提名，并最终斩获最佳员工发展奖。良好的学校人文环境将助益教师的福祉、发展与稳定，并进而推动学校的发展，这也是我们全体惠立社群——学生、家长和教职员工共同努力的成果。

In November, Huili School Hangzhou was shortlisted for two British Chamber awards, including Holistic Education Award, Empowering Students Award, and we successfully won the Staff Development award. A good humanistic environment contributes to teachers’ wellbeing, development and stability and promotes the development of the school. This achievement results from the joint efforts of pupils, parents and faculty, all Huili community members.

这一年来，特别是本学期，我们与家长们进一步加强了沟通，咖啡晨会、家长代表月度会议、餐饮等专门委员会会议、初中部更是创立了每周的“与班级辅导员会面”机制。在学校与家长们共同的努力之下，我们的家校沟通与协作有了令人欣喜的提升。真诚地感谢家长们的支持与信任！

In the past year, especially this semester, we have provided more communication ways for parents, such as coffee events, parents representatives monthly meetings and food committee meetings. In Junior High, weekly “meet the tutors” events have also been welcomed by parents. The collaboration between home and school has enhanced communication effectively. We want to express our sincere gratitude to parents for their support and trust.

短暂的冬假之后，我们将迎来学期的评估，期待惠立学子都能展现卓越的学术成就。教育需要尊重孩子的成长规律，回归教育的初心，最好的教育离不开学校和家长共同为之努力。希望在2021年末之时，我们都能将此牢记于心，并在新的一年以爱随行、携手共进。

After the short winter break, we will have an assessment for this semester. We look forward to the outstanding academic achievements of Huili pupils. School and parents need to work together for the best education outcomes while following children’s development stages. At the end of 2021, we will never forget why we started as educators and will continue to progress in the coming year.

As the end of term arrives and the pupils and staff have a well-earned break, I would like to share the importance of sleep with you. Often I hear pupils are tired, which affects their ability to concentrate. Teenagers need more sleep because their bodies and minds are growing, and sleep helps fuel this growth. Scientific research suggests that teenagers need between 8 and 10 hours a night but often only sleep about 6.5-7.5 hours. A lack of sleep can cause pupils to:

时光飞逝，岁月如梭。我们迎来了一年一度的回顾和总结时刻。九月以来，初中部一共举办了四十多场体育比赛，有八十多名学生踊跃参加。初中部学生完成了超过520小时的学习任务，在各个学科获得了显著进步，培养了学习技能，塑造了良好的品格。

As we come to the end of 2021, we reflect on our achievements since the start of term in September. Over 70 pupils have participated in competitions, over 40 fixtures have taken place, with over 80 Junior High pupils participating. With over 520 hours of lessons taking place, our pupils have made significant progress with subject content and the skills they have developed and the character they are building.

我们期待着2022年的到来，在此，我代表初中部全体老师祝愿您与您的家人假期愉快，身体健康！

在本周小学部高段集会上5A班同学在班主任Mr. Dever 的带领下与全校同学分享了关于中国传统节日冬至的起源与历史。我很欣喜地看到，在集会上同学们能将唐朝诗人杜甫的《小至》在基于对诗本身充分理解的基础上用英语进行了阐述和朗诵。

Led by Mr. Dever this week, 5A pupils shared the origin and history of the winter solstice, the traditional Chinese festival, with all upper primary pupils during the weekly upper primary assembly. I was happy to see that our pupils explained and recited the poem “Winter Solstice”, written by Du Fu, a Tang dynasty poet in English, based on their clear understanding.

我们将双语者定义为能够实现两种语言无痕迹转换的人。无论是语文中国主线文化课程的学习还是英语浸润式课程的学习，我们的目标是培养孩子能同时掌握中英双母语，能够在思想，文化，学术层面实现两种语言体系里自由切换，并且拥有深切的爱国情怀和文化归属感。更重要的是未来无论在何方，都能成为连接中国和世界的桥梁和纽带。能用世界听得懂的语言，讲好中国故事，让世界了解中国历史、为未来成为连接中国和世界的桥梁和纽带做好准备。而能用英语介绍自己的母国文化则是讲好中国故事的第一步。

We define bilingual learners as individuals who can seamlessly transition between the two languages. Under the guidelines of the Chinese culture curriculum and immersed English curriculum, we are committed to fostering pupils who can master both Chinese and English, pupils who can transfer freely in the two languages in terms of thinking, culture and academic levels and pupils who have strong patriotism and cultural identity. We hope that our pupils will be the bridge to link China and the world wherever they are in the future.

冬假即将来临，希望孩子们可以借此机会放慢节奏，回顾本学期的学习并实践本学期学到的技能。经过了数月的学习，我鼓励学生们能借此假期放松身心，积极参加一些户外活动。静下来阅读自己喜欢的书目，想一想自己为社区可以做哪些贡献，这些都将帮助学生们更好地为新学年做准备。

As the winter holiday approaches, I hope that our children can take time to slow down, reflect and embed all the skills they have learned this term. I encourage them to relax and recuperate after many hours of study and independent learning and participate in mindfulness activities. Taking time to enjoy reading for pleasure and thinking about their commitment to the community will help them better prepare themselves for the new year ahead.

上周，惠灵顿杭州校区开展了一系列内部比赛，如周二的学院触式橄榄球比赛和周四竞争异常激烈的学院篮球比赛。Mitchell老师和学院团队举行了学院比赛，希望增强学生在社群中的凝聚力和归属感。虽然比赛以获胜为目标，但惠立学子真正彰显了学校的价值观：勇气、尊重、正直、善良和责任。假期结束后，我们希望能继续参加外部竞赛和活动，继续提高惠灵顿杭州校区的体育水平。

Last week saw a range of internal competitions at Wellington College Hangzhou. On Tuesday, house touch rugby took place, and on Thursday, we saw some extremely competitive house basketball competitions. Mr. Mitchell and the house team held house competitions. They wanted to promote a sense of community and belonging amongst our pupils. Although the pupils competed to win, our pupils truly showed the values of our school: courage, respect, integrity, kindness and responsibility. After the winter break, we expect to continue with an array of external competitions and fixtures to continue improving sport at Wellington College Hangzhou.

2022年新春庆典将是彰显学生才艺的精彩活动。

The Chinese New Year Gala 2022 will be a fabulous showcase of our talented pupils. 

由于难以让所有学生都上台表演，所以新春庆典的选拔过程难度很大，这难免会让未入选的同学有点心生失望。为了让渴望表演的学生充分展示自己出色的技能和天赋，我们将在2022年春季末举办一场音乐会，与学校社群分享对音乐、舞蹈和戏剧的热爱。

The selection process for the event is always challenging as we cannot select all pupils to perform. This result can be disappointing for those who are not selected. However, due to their outstanding skills and talents, we will be holding a late Spring concert in 2022 to offer our aspiring performers a space to share their love for music, dance and drama with our school community.
